Membership Fees & Funds

  1. How much does it cost to join?

    Membership is FREE!

However, we do take up a love offering during meetings with special guest speakers to help reimburse them for their gas, preparation expenses,  time, and expertise.

Workshops and retreats may require a registration fee as well.

  2. Is BCW non-profit?

Bartlett Christian Writers is not set up as a non-profit simply because we are not a large enough organization to pull in those kinds of funds.

Donations are not deductible. Donations go toward maintaining the group expenses for meetings and special events. Extra donations go into an author development fund to help writers, who can't afford it, attend special events.

Membership Associations and Beliefs

  1. Is BCW a part of a larger organization?

The newly elected Board has decided to opt out of our association with American Christian Writers.  Although this is a very worthwhile organization to be a part of, we feel in light of recent events and the fact that ACwriters no longer supports our demographic area for conferences, supporting them on a monthly basis is no longer advantageous to our efforts as a local writer's group. However, we do encourage all Christian writers and members of our group to join a professional writing organization such as ACwriters or ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers). This will only serve to further your endeavors and help you reach your personal goals as a writer.

  2. What is your statement of faith?

Bartlett Christian Writers will keep to the same statement of faith as adopted from American Christian Writers. However, we are not currently a chapter of this organization.

    Statement of Faith

    1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
    2. We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three Persons:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
    3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in his personal return in power and glory.
    4. We believe that for the salvation of the lost and sinful, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
    5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose Indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
    6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
    7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
"...And He said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful." (Revelation 21:5)

  3. What is the BCW Mission Statement?

    Mission Statement

The mission of Bartlett Christian Writers is two-fold:

First, to create a place where Christian writers can be encouraged to share their talents with others and network safely with one another to further hone their skills.

Secondly, that every Christian writer, who wishes to refine their work, will do so by cultivating mentoring relationships with a kindred spirit.

Jeremiah 29:11 - “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

  4. What is the purpose of having a Christian writers group in Bartlett?

There is a need to have an organized Christian writers group on our side of town to service Lakeland, Arlington, Millington, Bartlett and Cordova areas.

  5. Can non-Christian or writers of other religious affiliation attend?

Yes, but be it understood that Bartlett Christian Writers is a Christian organization based upon Christian belief and structure. We will pray and take prayer request as well as speak openly about our faith in God. Your faith will be respected along with your mutual understanding and respect of our beliefs.

  6. If I'm not Christian will you try to convert me?

The purpose of this group is to learn about writing and not to push our religious beliefs upon each other.  However, if someone shows sincere interest as a seeker of faith and request more information, then we do reserve the right to share our faith privately outside our initial meeting time.

  7. What type of writing content do you allow?

We allow Christian-oriented along with all other religious and secular material within certain limits as listed below.

Anyone who reads their material aloud must stay within Christian candor using respectful language with no sexual content including all types of sexual orientation, no political bent, bias, or opinion. No profanity. This is simply to prevent any offensive conflicts within the group and keeps our focus on the writing itself.

Most genres are accepted except erotica or similar graphic styles. Suspense horror and psychological thrillers are accepted, but no slashers, slayers, extreme violence or Freddie Kruger's please.

With respect, we ask that no LGBT material be shared out of courtesy to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts within the group. This is a highly political topic and hot button for many people of the Christian faith as you know. We appreciate your understanding.

Absolutely no Satanic religious worship or affiliated materials are accepted. This should be obvious, but I felt the need to clarify since Satanic worship is now considered a religion and recognized as such by our government.

All Leadership Team Members including non-Board members are extremely important in their own right. They are considered reliable and trustworthy to do the job on a volunteer basis. If you attend meetings on a regular basis and are interested in joining our Leadership Team, by all means, let us know. We can always use extra hands on deck. There is no high skill set required, only a passion to write, the desire to help others in the process, and a strong presence at most meetings.

    Still Needing:

We are in need of an Accountant or CPA to serve as treasurer.

We also need a promotional and marketing lead.
